Breanni Durant
Harlem, NY.
My name is Breanni, but everyone calls me India. I’m 23 years old and a product of youth incarceration. I spent my entire adolescence in juvenile detention centers and programs.
Through my work, I aim to shed light on the experiences of my peers who are going through what I’ve been through. I want to highlight not only the struggles, but also the positive outcomes that can emerge from those experiences. I've weathered many storms and fought some of my toughest battles, yet I’m proud to say that, at 23, I’m felony-free. I’ve been in programs, like Youth Justice Network, that helped me evolve and grow. Now, seven years later, I’m documenting my journey through photography, allowing others to understand my personal traumas through my lens.
